Betta in trouble D:

He lasted quite a while considering... but I had a period of bad luck keeping bettas alive for more than a few months, didn't try again until last year and I've had Yagi for over a year now.

He was really beautiful, another reason it ws such a shame to find him in that condition, and his little pectoral fins were so long and pretty :P

If he still had the tail I'm sure it would have been long and magnificent like his other fins. So sad. Even if he'd lived longer than he did I don't think it would have grown back much at that point, despite the fact that his condition was pretty stable.

Bettas look like such delicate fish, sorry if I don't know much, I'm a cattie person so I don't know much about other species.

They're usually pretty hardy, but kept in bad enough conditions they can get serious fungal infection and fin rot. People tend to think they're hardier than they are and they will do fine in very dirty water...

I got some of mine b/c they were in bad conditions, a few of them came out fine but some didn't last as long. Most likely the stress had already gotten to them even if they seemed to do better.

It's weird; I had a couple of them when I was a bit younger that I just kept in small bowls, and one of them lived for at least 2 years-- I've also known a few other people who kept them in what I would consider abysmal conditions and still kept them alive for just as a long. Whereas I pulled out every stop for the ones I had and so many of them dropped off in a few months :dead:

Another weird thing I've had some bettas that didn't like being in a filtered tank and get stressed, and some that did fine. I don't know :P

It's weird how one breed of fish can be so different in their own behaviourv ^^
